We watched from the office as the swell picked up Friday morning, the obvious answer was to put down tools and shoot home for boards and head up the coast to beautiful Kaikoura.
Kaikoura, a coastal town two hours drive north of Christchurch, features a rocky shoreline that subsequently boasts a nice line-up of point breaks that make even the most seasoned, well-travelled surfers weak at the knees.
As we motored north the swell appeared to be picking up and eventually reached its peak. The swell kept on delivering perfect 4ft peaks all weekend, until on Sunday, when we could take no more, we sauntered home, satisfied with a weekend well spent.
